according to "the washington post," six of the welfare deadliest mass shootings in this country's history had happened since 2007. i will start with a simple question here. why are these shootings taking even more victims it seems? >> well, they are taking more victims, number one, because we see shooters using semiautomatic weapons. most of the time you look at the mass shootings, probably in the last 15 to 30 years, it is either semiautomatic pistols, which normally have about 15, 16 rounds or high capacity. they could have 20 or they use assault rifles which, again, have 2035 rounds. so the shooters are going in and they are better armed and have high capacity weapons and they are obviously shooting to kill. in this case, the most innocent of those what do some of the shooters -- what are some of the traits they all have in common? >> well, you know, recently -- first of all, i want to be very quick to say we can't put everybody in the same pot. we can't lump them all together. we can't say they are all sociopaths, psychopaths. we can't say they all have mental health problems because

"the washington post" has reported that the president has put the vice president in charge of putting a stop to violence. yesterday, the president met with biden, along with other cabinet members to discuss this issue, along with arne duncan there, we see kathleen sebelius there, eric holder to formulate a plan. how many opportunity is there for something to get done, with public sentiment the way it is after newtown? >> well there say window, people are obviously outraged at what happened. while there is a political will to do something, they have to move and they have to act. they have to get through the fiscal. there may be talks about sb immigration as well. so it's a bit crowded right after the honeymoon. second-term honeymoons do lot last long. a moment they have to seize

is there the political will in washington, d.c.? does it exist now, and will it exist three, four weeks from now to make some sort of change? >> correct. i think that's a great question, and i think we don't necessarily know the answer just yet. when you saw president obama's reaction the other day when he came in the press room at the white house, wiping away tears, reaction beyond what we've seen from him in public, and i think it was genuine. i think, however, even his supporters might have a little right to be a little bit skeptical. he's delivered some very powerful speeches including after gabby giffords was shot, but following up with action. he said he supported on bringing a ban on assault rifles, hasn't done anything to sort of introduce any legislation or promote legislation. i think a lot of people are calling for him to react of the he reacted as a father by shedding tears and react as a president by pushing forward. i think you'll see the bills be introduced. people are looking to the white house to lead. will he say a
